Mellow Mornings

Early morning solitude...at the crack of dawn,
I slip from my ruffled nest, with a wakeup yawn.
Stumble to the kitchen, turn the coffee on.
Watch the birds a'twitter, sweep across my lawn.

Take my morning coffee to my easy chair,
Prop my feet upon a stool right in front of there.
Fuzzy cats clamor, always want to share,
Snuggle in my lap, without one single care.

Darkened sky lightens into a dirty gray,
Before the sun can burst its gloom into another day.
Soon a painter's palette...bright colors to display
Sun's early waking, in splendrous array.

Another day to ponder, to spend how e're I choose,
No more time clocks beckon...no retirement blues!
Just sit and watch the sun rise and read the morning news,
Life is now a pleasure for I have paid my dues!
