    Life's Trinkets

Oh, I gathered up the trinkets
of my life
And carried them over
as we became "man and wife".

The first years of our marriage
were oh, so, grand.
Next to you and our children
I did proudly stand.

Once again, I gathered up the trinkets
of our life,
and carried them into a new home,
still as "man and wife".

But the path got covered with
worldly things,
there was pain, hardship and
tears that sting.

Our children are now grown
and on their own.
And...you lie beneath
the sod and stone.

Still, I carried on, passing
on the trinkets of your life.
Till death do us part,
no longer am I your wife.

Reminders of you are in the eyes
of our grandchildren. They
fill my aching heart full of joy.
Oh, how I love them, all of them,
each girl and each boy.

Soon my life's purpose will be over,
and they will pass out the trinkets of
my life.
Oh, how my heart fills with gratitude
at being a mother, grandmother
and your wife.

"...Godliness with contentment is a
great gain." (1 Timothy 6:6) KJV

About the Poet
Born on October 24, 1939, I was one of seven children. I am now a mother of seven grown children, grandmother of 18, widow, and writer for the past 50 years mostly poetry. Day care provider of many years, now retired. Three poetry books published, but no longer in print, several little poem books self published. Published in local newspapers, several magazines and daily devotionals. My faith, family and writing poetry has brought me thus far.
