The Child inside of Me

The Child inside of Me

Each year as Christmas approaches
the child inside of me surfaces.

In my mind I go back in memories
to the Christmases of my youth.

The sights, the lights, the smells,
the tree, the gifts and the excitement
of the big day.

Going to midnight mass and marching
first in line in a procession makes those
memories come alive today.

The giving of gifts was the center
of my thoughts, not the gifts I would
receive.

Showing my love to my younger sisters
and brother gave me happiness in my heart
and theirs.

Christmas is a time for sharing, and letting
the child inside of us give thanks to the
Little Lord Jesus for His precious gift of love,
Himself.

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, His love
endures forever." (Psalm 107:1)

About the Poet
Born on October 24, 1939, I was one of seven children. I am now a mother of seven grown children, grandmother of 18, widow, and writer for the past 50 years mostly poetry. Day care provider of many years, now retired. Three poetry books published, but no longer in print, several little poem books self published. Published in local newspapers, several magazines and daily devotionals. My faith, family and writing poetry has brought me thus far.
