The Cascade Mountains
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

Other Poems by Evelyn Heinz

           The Cascade Mountains

Our spirits soared
Up the mountain path
Virgin white snow
Lay at our feet.
      Yet...
We four were warm,
Each lost in quiet thoughts.
We hiked for half an hour
Then walked over a bridge,
Reaching our final quest.
The snow had melted away
From beneath a huge fur tree
Under it, we spread our picnic cloth
Preparing for a peaceful lunch.
        And...
God set out before us
a rushing, rippling river
In its midst, beyond our reach
Was an island, full of trees.
Behind them He placed
Tall, magnificant mountains.
Together we drank in
The beauty of the Cascades
And all their surroundings.
Truly God had been here.
Masterfully, He had set nature
In a special place for us
Long before we arrived.

"But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord
thy God, thou shalt find Him, if thou seek Him
with all thy heart and with all thy soul."(KJV)

About the Poet
Born on October 24, 1939, I was one of seven children. I am now a mother of seven grown children, grandmother of 18, widow, and writer for the past 50 years mostly poetry. Day care provider of many years, now retired. Three poetry books published, but no longer in print, several little poem books self published. Published in local newspapers, several magazines and daily devotionals. My faith, family and writing poetry has brought me thus far.
