Valentine Memories

Valentine Memories

Beneath the glue and erasure marks,
the sentiment pops right through.
One little homemade card
with a red heart, reading, "I love you."

I received such valentine messages as,
"Mommy, I trust you."
"Mommy, I love you."
"Mommy you are my friend."
"I love you very, very, much."
And from one little son,
To Mom, love you! Kiss,kiss.
May I marry you?"

Surely,  one could search
the world over and never
find a store that sold
a Valentine worth treasuring
like the ones made by
the hands of a small child.

Each Valentine with a red
cardboard heart and an
abundance of white glue
holds a special place in my heart
God's love shone through
my children as they presented
their expressions of love.
And...they will last forever in my
memories and my heart."

About the Poet
Born on October 24, 1939, I was one of seven children. I am now a mother of seven grown children, grandmother of 18, widow, and writer for the past 50 years mostly poetry. Day care provider of many years, now retired. Three poetry books published, but no longer in print, several little poem books self published. Published in local newspapers, several magazines and daily devotionals. My faith, family and writing poetry has brought me thus far.
