The Hymns

The hymns sang their way into my life
And changed this heart of mine
When I heard the gospel truths sang over and over
Time after time after time
Then it finally dawned upon me
That I could have true liberty
When I counted the cost that put Christ on the Cross
It made a believer of me

Now my heart is still continually rejoicing
For Christ now liveth in me
The sins that once held me in darkness
When He came in...they had to flee!
What cleansing power in the blood
The precious blood of the Lamb
That can wash a heart as white as snow
When we become born again

The hymns have such staying power
For their melodies are Spirit led
To draw a sinner to the Saviour
To Christ our living Head
I'm still touched when the hymns are sung
Their melodies how sweet the refrain
We can be saved hallelujah!..praise God for the Son!
Hallelujah praise God Jesus saves!!!

So the next time you hear a hymn my friend
Give ear to the words that are sung
The Spirit may use them to speak to your heart
And help your faith journey along
And fellow believer you know of their value
For what the hymns have done for you
Praise God He puts a new song into the heart's
Of those who have trusted Christ too!

Hallelujah what a Saviour!

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
