Like a Bride
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

By Michael P. Johnson
Other Poems by Michael P. Johnson

            Like a Bride

God’s church is likened to a bride

In love through Jesus’ kiss

With nought but peace and joy inside

Awaiting life-long bliss

And yet she’s like a woman scorned

Foolish in many ways

However much The Bride Groom’s warned

So much she disobeys

Ever since youth on hallowed ground

When God shut tight His Door

She’s flirted with each lover found

As would a common whore

Refusing from the past to learn

Her shameful ways to hate

She’s destined in her filth to burn

And share her lover’s fate

Though Rahab’s house was sure to fall –Jos.2:1-7

When all within would die –Jos.2:8-13

Through faith, her window wore her shawl –Jos.2:14-21

And death just walked on by –Jos.6:22-25

Too oft our songs are full of woe

We’re burdened down with shame

Just like the woman with the flow –Lk.8:43-48

Until Salvation came

Like Esther hindered by her king –Est.4:10-11

Through protocol of state

She had Salvation’s song to sing –Est.5:10-11

And freedom couldn’t wait –Est.7:1-10

Like her, traditions hold us down

Religion, binds us tight

Producing jewels to fail life’s crown

And gild one’s robe of white…..

        His Chosen Bride

But when God’s Lamb we have in mind

His perfect will to do

No longer will one’s eyes be blind

Life’s chosen Way to view

Although all things may have a time

All things may have their place

Its now; we need to end all crime

If we’re to see His face

So through the faith in Christ believed

We minister The Light

We serve The Truth by grace received

Before the pending night

Like Ruth; we’d leave our lives behind –Ru.1:16-17

Fixing our eyes above

Nothing on earth could change our mind

Or rob Salvation’s Dove

Too oft we’re like the woman bent –Lk.13:10-13

By Satan bound in pain

Till healing through The Christ is sent

Through Truth love caused to reign

From all past faults the bride should learn

Accept Christ’s true report

Making God’s will her prime concern

That all the earth be taught

It’s not enough life’s facts to read

Or call The Truth our own

We must request God’s Holy Seed

To change one’s heart of stone

To selfish will, we need to die

Let Heaven show The Way

Allow God’s holy standard fly

Until the wedding day…..

About the Poet
I never wrote a word of poetry in my life. Till the day Jesus took my hand and touched my soul.....I invite your response. However most poems are not about me! Very few are. But the feed-back good, bad or indifferent is always desired. Not meant to offend, but I write about many things in many a guise. Of life, death, lost, found, saved, backsliders, new comers, repenting souls, doubting hearts, heathens, Christians, fire, water, Satan's daughter, wallowing in sin, saved, made sound walking in Light, graceful righteous. Suffering, ecstatic, bored, excited, sad, delighted, Sick, well, lame, able, living, dying, etc. etc. etc. Writing about anything, everything and everyone as the spirit leads. All meant to reveal, waken, revive, encourage, shame, help. Gladden, pick up, exalt, portrait, liberate. Again over 99% of my work is not about me. Although at times I write as though I were or am. Speaking e.g. in the first person. This is quite common even in the bible itself. Prophets speak of themselves, then God speaks, again the prophet, then God......Quite often it's difficult to distinguish whom it is that at any given time is speaking or narrating.
