Infant at Church

Infant at Church
for the minister's circle time
banjo music
his mesmerized blue eyes beam

in a six-monther's way
he coos and sings
to the lively music
while secure on his father's lap

he turns his bald head to follow
all the bright activity
ceiling fan and lights captivating
hands flailing to each side

little legs enjoying
stretch and kick
in blue terry sleeper
excitement right to the toes
he tugs them, with pride

to the smiles of his numerous admirers
from pews close and far
he responds with his
in full open glee
as if he knows
he is the star attraction

as the minister plays on
