Woolen Socks

                 Woolen Socks

Where did all those warm days go?
It doesn't seem that long.
When barefeet made their way across
a green carpeted lawn.
Fresh mown grass with it's own smell
felt soft upon the skin.
Of life that moved in constant yearning
for new things to begin.
But where did all those warm days go?
Barefeet now move with care.
And eyes that did not scan lawn
now search for something there.
The warmth of days in summer
seem more fleeting than before.
Too soon cold winds affect the eyes
that tear up more and more.
But then the thoughts come back again
to a grateful place of mind.
For it's with God's help and woolen socks
barefeet get by just fine.
