How Many?
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

How Many?

The heart whispered this question,
How many died for Her today?
Where feet stood on sand or rock
in places far away.
How many gave all they could give?
How many fought as others fled?
From places where the light did shine
on darkness'  cruel uncaring head.
In war life has no morning's promise.
Death ever lurks with shadowed veil.
Awaiting for it's chosen moment
young lives to come and steal.
Then in the sound of rockets screaming.
With scent of blood and smoke in air.
As it reached out to claim another.
With clutching hands devoid of care.
How many felt it's cold, cold touch?
While brave comrades knelt beside.
How many said their last goodbyes
and kept the tears inside?
It's been said America has changed.
That the Lady's eyes have blurred a bit.
But how many for Her died today?
Assuring freedom's fire stays lit.
