Of Youth and Age

       Of Youth and Age

Feet slowly moved through clear water
as life enjoyed a summer day.
Pant legs rolled up to the knees
and no socks in the way.
A few quick breaths, then a chuckle,
'cause spring fed streams run cold.
Thought formed a question quickly answered.
Lord, I hope I never get that old.
Leaves were slowly floating by
like ships bound for distant places.
While water bugs on smoother surface
traced fleeting images of faces.
And when the memory did come
of this same stream yet long ago.
A soul did travel to that place
where agelessness is known.
And as the sound of nature's
soothing song within the ears did fade.
Time found it must release it's hold
within the world then made.
For there while standing in the glow
of willed serenity.
In a precious moment youth ran on
laughing joyously.
