A Few Days before Christmas

A Few Days Before Christmas

Just a few days before Christmas
yet all through the town.
Nobody was smiling,
each one wore a frown.
Though Christmas lights sparkled
from window and pole.
There was no joy of Christmas
on the faces grown old.
When all of a sudden
a child began singing.
And from the Church on a hill
bells began ringing.
At first no one noticed,
then all stopped to see.
From where came this music,
this sweet melody.
And as each one
tuned out worldly noise.
To their ears came the words
from this heavenly voice.
"Away in a manger..."
and thoughts rose above.
While the child kept on singing
of hope, peace, and love.
The whole town then rejoiced
for the truth was made clear.
The true meaning of Christmas?
Jesus is here!
