Almost a Mother

Almost a Mother

"The doctor says I'm pregnant, it's poor timing that's for sure,
'cause my mother has Alzheimer's, I spend all my time on her;
And my husband's job is shaky and the money's really tight,
and I just can't keep from crying and I just can't sleep at night...

"So I've scheduled an appointment for next Wednesday, one o'clock,
got a conference with a counselor who says that we should talk;
I've discussed it with my husband and he says to end it now,
it's bad timing for a baby, I'm too busy anyhow."

That same evening, that same hour, in that same small sleepy town,
was a woman, sobbing loudly, who lived just four houses down;
On her knees and trembling wildly, she was almost half insane,
with her arms hugging her middle, she was overcome with pain...

"I still can't believe it happened, it all seems like a bad dream,
when I found out I'd miscarried, all that I could do was scream!
All I wanted was my baby, now I only want to die,
I can't live without my baby! Tell me why, God, tell me why!"

An abortion, a miscarriage: saddest words in all the earth,
precious gifts, God's greatest blessings, dying even before birth;
Weeping angels hide their faces, hopes and dreams are forced to die,
when the phrase, "Almost a Mother," is repeated up on High.

"Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord:
and the fruit of the womb is His reward."

About the Poet
IN MEMORIAM I'm just a servant of the Lord that wants to magnify Him through poetry, and to cause others to focus on Him.
