...And Then Some

And Then Some

When God invented Love & Hate,
He put a lot on Adam's plate,
"Take heed in how you treat your mate,
...Defend her."
And since this old world first began
That burden's been upon the man,
"Don't raise your hand just 'cause you can,
...Be tender."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He hit her back, & she cried in fear,
And he yelled, "I gotta get OUTTA here!"
And he didn't even glance in the rearview mirror,
...And Jesus wept.
She threw his clothes out on the lawn,
And cursed his name, "Thank God he's gone!"
And she ranted & raved till the break of dawn,
...And Jesus wept.
The kids wake up to a brand new day,
She tells them, "Go outside & play ~
Your daddy's gone, he's gone to stay,"
...And Jesus wept.
What makes God weep, what makes Him cry
Are the wayward ways of you & I,
But He loves us till the day we die
,,,And then some.
No matter what, His arms held wide,
He's there through all our foolish pride,
And He bids us near, set the world aside
...And then, "Come!"
So the kids spend weekends with their dad,
And their mom needs money & she's always mad,
When she speaks of daddy it's mostly bad,
...And Jesus weeps.
And before you know it, the years have flown,
Now the mold is set, 'cause the kids are grown,
And they all have children of their own,
...And Jesus weeps.
A battered woman has a grown-up son,
And he plans to wed, & her fear's begun,
'Cause she can't undo all the damage done,
...And Jesus weeps.
What makes God weep, what makes Him cry
Are the wayward ways of you & I,
But He loves us till the day we die
...And then some.
No matter what, His arms held wide,
He's there through all our foolish pride,
And He bids us near, set the world aside
...And then, "Come!"
Christ loved you till the day He died,
...And then some.
About the Poet
IN MEMORIAM I'm just a servant of the Lord that wants to magnify Him through poetry, and to cause others to focus on Him.
