Preview of Autumn

As I sat alone in the yard
The sunset seemed broken patches.
The pond glowed red with reflection
As clouds clustered like lit matches.

Brightness on the gray-green landscape
Suddenly shone where the clouds cracked.
The sun shone in fullness of life,
A stormy twilight, brightness backed.

Red leaves burned with fire of their own,
(Man’s withered weather-beaten cheeks)
Marveling at God’s creation
As wind disturbs the ponds and creeks.

Then I had to run for shelter !
