A Simple Cross

A Simple Cross Of  Wood

Held there upon a piece of string
was a simple cross of wood.
Many had seen it hanging there
but why few understood.
Some thought it just a decoration.
Just a simple fad.
A hand me down from one now gone.
A memory once had.
But if any posed the question,
Why do this thing you wear?
The weight of truth would fall upon
any standing there.
For on a simple cross of wood
Jesus' love was seen most pure.
Untainted by the touch of sin.
Undaunted by the pain endured.
