The Path

The Path
by Ricky l Gibbs

The path stretched out before him.
Overgrown and yet straight as can be.
Thorns and briars scratched the skin.
The ground beneath was hard to see.
Step by step he struggled.
As if on his own.
For ahead no other could be seen.
He felt he was alone.
Then in a moment of sorrow.
At a time of pain and doubt.
He stumbled and went to his knees.
Saying, Lord please lift me out.
A voice cut through the sorrow.
Rise up, for you are mine.
He struggled to get to his feet,
and turned to look behind.
Twas there he saw The Savior
and all the scars he bore.
Tears of love filled his eyes
and faith returned once more.
The path was yet before him.
The briars and thorns remained.
But this time he wasn't just walking.
He was praising Jesus' name.
