Drawn out of the Water

Drawn out of the Water

The river flowed, murmuring,

In ripples, a sadness;

So deeply etched in the souls,

Of the Israelites, sorrowing at,

The loss of their male children;

Snuffed out by decree of,

A heartless Pharaoh;

And their nation mourned;

And the river sighed;

Sighed in sadness;

Sighed in secrecy;

Rippling hushed rhythms,

A lullaby to a boy well hid,

Since three months passed;

A papyrus basket glided on,

The flow of the river along;

And the boy meandered,

Into her heart,

Of the daughter of Pharaoh;

She drew him out of the water,

The Hebrew boy, Moses.
