No Excuse

"Through the Creation of the world, His invisible attributes
of eternal power and divinity have been able to be understood
and perceived through what He has made. Therefore, they
have no excuse." Romans 1:20

Cut the cord to my world,
A world smalled by the venom of "I-ness;"
Then, I will enter the gate to Your World --
To Your Power and Divinity.

Yes, clear the mists from my soul's eyes,
Then I will  translate Your Handwriting,
The manuscript of Creation,
Into my soul's monsyllables.

Yes, Creation's fabric lacks fraud,
No sham, no hoax, in all that is, for
It speaks the truth --
Your Power and Divinity.

Yes, a roofless temple is Your Universe,
Raised not by chance nor random, but
By rule and law,
This vault echoes with a simple hymn --

Is reason humbled;
Hands over the man-made You, for You;
Companions my soul with all;
Homes the breathless in my soul.

let it ever be my prayer;
There is no excuse.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
