"In this the love of God was made manifest among us,
That He sent His only Son into the world so that we may
Have life through Him." John 4:9

The Spark You strike
From my soul's flint
Is Your Love for me.

It flames out
Into a River --
The River of Jesus that

Flows over my soul's field,
Burns away the weeds,
The dead stalks, and
Leaves my soul ready
For the pasture planting -- Salvation.

The Spark You strike
From my soul's flint
Is Your Love for me.

It flames out
Into Wheels of Fire --
The Chariot of Jesus that

Carries my soul,
Weary of the world's
Death still towns,
To the City of His Kingdom.

Carries my soul
Up heaving hills,
Over my self-crowned will,
To You Father, our shared Father.

It bears my frailty,
It supports my course,
It drives my day.

Yes, Jesus is the Answer
To the ancient quarrel,
To Adam's ancestral grief;

Yes, Jesus is
Your Love for me,
Your River of Fire,
Your Wheels of Fire.

Thank You.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
