"... and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith
in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me."
Galatians 2:20

As Jesus gave Himself for us,
So faith gives the self up to Him --
Into His Hands.

The Truth's Sanctuary,
The Divine Sword before error,
The Soul's Guardian.

Who lifts stones
From all eyes;
Who points to any traps:
Open and silent.

Who speaks loud through silence;
Gives life through death;
Birth's through a Virgin,
Yes, Jesus, the Mystery.

Who fills the soul's hollow;
A Feast for the soul's famine;
The Healer for the glassy ice of pride,
Like ice it  bends and breaks souls.

Your Eyes never close, eternally open,
Shine on my soul, and
Keeps the Fiends paws claws off, then,
I will live in the mansion of faith,
Not the hovel of error, and
No longer shiver in a life
Without meansing,
Without God, but
With a holy hunger for You.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
