A Plea

A Plea

"Whoever should do the will of God, this one is my brother
and sister and mother." Mark 3:35

All the pleas
Of the world and flesh
Argue at the soul's gate --
Seeking to be it's emperor and god.

But,
There is another Plea,
A call to an unchained life,
A Voice of Love, You, Father,
Your commands, Your precepts,
Your desire for us, Your purpose for us,
Your Will for this moment.

Hear,
Empty of self-will,
So to stand like the nakedness
Of a mountain summit; and,
Do My Will, be My Will;
Your Cause, Your Lead --
The Author of all.

Father,

I ask for grace,
For as the sun empowers the seed,
So grace the soul.

Grace
Turns the soul's gate
Into a valve --
Let's Your Will flow in,
Keeps it, shuts all out, and
Fills the wanting furrows.

Yes,
"Thy Will be done."

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
