Live Oak

"...The seed is the Word of God." Luke 8:11

Father,

You live

Beyond my mind's reach, but

Your Son, Your Gift to us,

Speaks Your Mind.

Please,

Seed my soul's mind

With His Word,

Much as the wind

Carries seeds of new life.

Then, unshell the Seed and

I will grow His Word.

But, Father,

At times the Seed

Is fragile and vulnerable, or

Stays earth tomb'd.

It is then, I pray for

Your Spirit's Spring Breath  and

Your Son's Blood-Waters, and

With Your Love's grace,

His Word will swell in my soul,

Rise though my earthy wants, and

Thicken into a Live Oak --

Green even in my winters.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
