My Cry

"Hear my cry, O God, ... when my heart is overwhelmned." Psalm 61: 1-2

Let my faith be not skinny,
Nothing but sea-sand;
No, but an unlocked melody of trust.

Why? Why trust You,  my God?

You are my Rock,
Unshaken and without quake,
Firm to stand on
As I gaze on the rising sun
With hope in the arriving day.

You are my Tower, named Liberty,
Rising high above the world's babel
To watch with my soul
For the march of the enslaving Enemy,
Fortified from his betrayals.

You are my Tent
Who companions our pilgrimage
Like the desert nomads of old;
One pegged into the ground
Of Your Grace, so that
I will live free under Your rich awning.

You are my Wings
Lifting me from the gravity pull
Of the world and the flesh;
Lifting me sky-free
Leaving the earth
To attain Your Heavenly Kingdom.

Deep in my heart I seek Your Dwelling Place;
Turn Your Ear to this cry,
Let it not be drowned in doubt's din
But brought near to the sound
Of Your Pulsating Heart.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
