The Armor of God

The Armor of God

Every morning I accept my armor from the Lord.
Before I even leave my bed, I check for my own sword.
The Spirit's sword is God's true Word,
I need this for the fight.
With sword in hand, the battle on,
I will not run in flight.
My shield of faith is in my hand,
To move in all directions.
I look about throughout the day,
And quell darts of deception.
Upon my head a helmet rests,
My mind, the battlefield.
God's truth protects and guards my thoughts,
Salvation is my shield.
A belt of truth I put in place,
And try throughout the day,
To dwell on God and righteousness,
He will be my stay.
My heart is safe from doing wrong,
By choosing righteous ways.
A heart that dwells on holiness,
Will guard me through the day.
As I step out into the light,
I put on soldier's shoes.
I know not what may lie ahead,
But sin I must refuse.
And then at night, I lay in peace,
My Savior by my bed.
He will protect me through the night,
As sure as He has led.

About the Poet
I've been a Christian for over 40 years and am continually thankful for Jesus' friendship and care. I'm married and have three grown children. I also have two grandsons and three granddaughters. Praise God! My prayer is that God would use these simple poems to encourage you in your walk with the Lord.
