The Cauldron and the Crucible

The Cauldron and the Crucible

THE CAULDRON (a senryu)

compliance inflamed

by the smoke of injunctions

incense arising

THE CRUCIBLE (a sparrowlet)

Melting pot land, balance of pow'r

U.S. Supreme Court's finest hour

Mandate's the main question at hand.

If it goes to pot, then how are

"insurance companies" to stand?

Balance of power, melting pot land.

God's will be done; He sits astride

and stirs the pot so full of pride.

This ACA's a smoking gun

that careful choice can override.

Pray for the Court that's number one.

He sits astride; God's will be done

Author's Notes: A sparrowlet is a variation of a swap quatrain, in that the first and last lines of each stanza have 2 phrases which are swapped around. This form can have any number of stanzas of 6 lines each. Each line is 8 syllables (so far, I have used iambic tetrameter and find that it works well, but it is not a requirement). The rhyme scheme for each stanza is as follows: (A,B), b, a, b, a, (B,A) .

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
