The Law Is Broke

The Law Is Broke

a ballad

Oh, shudder at the tales they tell

of making bricks or weed;

they're made to work without reward.

Their childhood's gone to seed.

They're selling drugs and stolen goods

from car to street to door;

and trading guns for merchandise

with quotas to get more.

Where is their hope devoid of God?

and who will share His name?

The law is broke; then who will stand

to rescue them from shame?

Young girls are made to turn a trick

and boys must live with sleaze

for food and shelter, clothes to wear -

just bare necessitites.

Some run-aways, some throw-aways

still humans dealt as slaves.

They need defense from threat of harm

to shield them from their graves.

Where is their hope devoid of God?

and who will share His name?

The law is broke; then who will stand

to rescue them from shame?

Author's Notes:
"I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one. "  Ezekiel 22:30

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
