Prayers and Pray-ers

Dedicated to Tim Taylor, student at SBTS

Up the mount, the hungry Pray-er embarked
Early in the morn, while it was still dark;
His appeal knew no end.
Later on his knees as death He embraced,
“Watch and pray,” He asked and fell to his face.
His appeal found no friend.

Prayers to ponder – the seventeenth of John.
Prayers for Himself – “God, glorify your Son.”
Prayers for his disciples – “God, make them one.”
Prayers for us – new believers unborn.
Prayers take time.

Jesus was loving and bound to implore.
Selfish and hurried, we’ve few words in store;
Prayer time is gone, Amen!
Pray early? Much to do, people to impress.
Pray late? So sleepy now and way under stress;
God’s will be done, Amen!

Pray-ers ask, but they listen to God too.
Pray-ers confess sins, profess faith anew.
Pray-ers think and thank, praise Jesus as true.
Pray-ers seek mercy, find service to do.
Pray-ers make time.

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
