The Valley of Baca
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

By Reason A. Poteet

an Arabian sonnet inspired by Psalm 84

Greetings to the one who cries for salvation;
God hears the tears of your desolation.
Crying for our Lord’s shield from privation
strength comes, Messiah gives confirmation.

One day spent as keeper of His threshhold,
one day guarding the gate to His sheepfold,
better by far than one spent searching for gold.
No good thing will God’s Anointed withhold.

From your tears, create a thirst-quenching spring,
build fountains gushing with water to bring
life-giving strength and glory for our King.

How lovely, His tabernacles of praise,
How safe, the shelters He calls us to raise,
How blessed, strength to strength, is God’s dwelling place.

written by Reason A. Poteet

Willis J. Beecher explains the Valley of Baca is not a geographical place but a picturesque expression for the experiences of those whose strength is in Yahweh, and who through His grace find their sorrows changed into blessings.

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
