What Does the Lord Need?

What Does the Lord Need?

dedicated to the memory of Christian friends, Harry and Frances Mannix

One named Ananias bargained and sold

a parcel of land and got a fair price.

Both he and his wife connived to withhold

from their benevolent gift --a small slice.

When queried at church, the truth they declined

as if God does not discern when we’ve lied,

As if His Spirit needs a sleuth to find

they misapplied, they falsified. They died.

Acts brings to view a believer in doubt.

This Ananias was put to the test

“Your call is clear, Lord, but may I point out,

all who speak of You, this Saul will arrest.”

As if God needs to hear our opinion,

as if it matters our view of the maze.

We trust in God for He has dominion --

no surveys, no résumés, no delays.

And now we meet Ananias, the third,

a high priest newly appointed to court.

Uncontrolled was he, incensed when he heard

Paul’s testimony that claimed God’s support.

This priest ordered that Paul should be smitten

As if God needs defense from such a plea.

What God requires is forthrightly written:

do justly; love mercy; walk humbly with me.

He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what

doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to

love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?  Micah 6:8

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
