The Winning Walk

Wanting to prove myself worthy,
work was not one of my weapons.
weakly, I worded my query --
“I wish of your wealth my fair share.”

Worried and wise to the world’s ways,

dad willingly bore my weakness,

watching in prayer at the window,

worn down while waiting my return.

From  wallowing in dirt, I came

wobbling back home to my father,

wailing, “just make me your servant.”

his wrath weighed heavy on my mind.

Walking  t’wards me, arms open wide,

weeping he called, “Welcome home, Son"
Washing my wounds with forgiveness,

my worth did not warrant his robe.

Witnessing this scene from afar

wretched and wrestling from within,

my brother waged war in his soul.

My wheedling he would not withstand.

Have you guessed why this woeful tale

was written with me -- the winner?

Wrong as I was, I woke up in time.

My reward?  Show brother the Way.

Luke 15:11-32

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
