YE OLD ROMAN ROAD
a wreath

The truth is power for one who believes
believes he has sinned and hence comes up short
short of God’s benchmark and facing sure death.
Death is the wages for every man's work
work full of pride, but rejoice there’s a gift
gift of new life in Christ Jesus the Lord.
The Lord condemns none. He died for our sin
sin that separates us from God’s free grace
grace given prior to our contrite hearts.
Hearts that believe and mouths that confess faith,
honest faith in God's Son will receive life -
life everlasting, God's undying truth.

Romans 1:16, 3:23, 6:23, 8:1, 5:8, 10:9-10

Written by Reason A. Poteet

*anadiplosis is the use of the ending word of one line
as the beginning word of the next line.  George Herbert
used this technique in his beautiful poem, A Wreath (1633)
which gave its title to the form used therein.

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
