Election 2090 BC

Did God just point his finger and bless?

Had He called others to sire His nation?

Was Abram the first to answer, “Yes.”?

Was he plagued by some hesitation?

Abram wasn’t bad, to his behalf;

but lying about his wife was not just fate.

God’s promise of a son made Abram laugh

His last laugh was Shuah, son number eight.

Despite their goodbyes, finding their niche,

note Abram’s rescue when Lot was detained,

clear praise to God for making him rich,

refusal of gifts as vict’ry was gained.

Plan to bear a child by Sarai’s maid

worked only to bring jealous rejection.

When on the altar Isaac was laid,

Abram’s bold trust confirmed God’s election.

Who’ll plant faithfully?  Who’ll sow wild oats?

Election time for the Timeless Witness;

Holy Electorate has all the votes.

Like His love, God’s knowledge is endless.

One step at a time, some fears not resolved,

Abram’s the one who went out-on-a-limb.

God’s only choice, blessed friendship evolved.

God chose Abram knowing he’d trust in Him.

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
