An Image Gone Bad

a rondeau

An image gone bad, could this Man have what I need?
In short, Zacchaeus climbed up to look and got treed.
Caught by the Master who knew well his shady past.
His request to come and stay leaves poor Zach aghast.
This man invites himself? Will he bring me Godspeed?

Who among my best friends, like me are filled with greed?
Whose basic selfishness, like mine, has run to seed?
I should ask each one to come, we are all outcast,
an image gone bad...

Mission was accomplished when Zach boldly agreed,
"I am a thief, but repayment I will exceed -
I'll pay back four times what I have wrongly amassed,
half of my hoard goes to the poor whom I've harassed."
Faith came to this tax-collector's house to succeed
an image gone bad.

Mankind is made in the image of His Maker, but self keeps getting in the way, interfering with how we represent God. There is hope as we build a relationship with Him through Christ.

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
