God Was Merciful

God Was Merciful

God was merciful to me a sinner
And led me to the Son
By His Spirit through His Word
My heart found true convicton
I saw sin now as never before
I felt it through and through
How far away I was from Him
But not aware of what to do

It didn't dawn on me at that time
It took awhile for me to learn
But as I read His precious Word
My heart began to yearn
I learnt of faith and Providence
How God was faithful and true
Through the lives of chosen men
That God used to see faith's view

Slowly but surely I came around
The beginning of my soul's relief
Christ was the anchor to rest faith upon
It was then I appropriated belief
Believe on the Lord and thou shall be saved
Was preaching that became a blessing
Soon I was repenting of my sin
And the Lord Jesus Christ confessing

Praise God for mercy praise God for grace
Hallelujah for my Salvation
Born again by the Spirit of God
Rejoicing in my justification
For God was in Christ reconciling the world
And offered up pardon for sin
Whomsoever shall call upon the name of the Lord
Has an inheritance waiting for Him

I can't believe you won't believe
While the offer is still on the table
Today, today...while it's called today
Call upon Him while you're still able
For sin has an eternal recompense
For the wages of sin is death
But the gift of God is eternal life
Call upon Christ while you still have breath

Hallelujah what a Saviour

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
