Witnesses       "Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly,
not all people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even
to us who ate and drank with Him after He rose from the dead."
                         Acts 10:40-41

Father,

You wear awe as a garment,
One that fits You so well.

All Creation kneels to Your Power,
Even death, for Your Hands lifted Jesus,
Your Son, the Righteous One,
From it's tyranny.

Yes, He rose from the dead,
The Tomb was empty --
No delusion, no trick, no deceit.

I need only ask Peter,
The one who betrayed, but now leads,
He ate and drank with Jesus
AFTER He rose from the dead. And
He choose to die hung on wood
Rather than deny his witness --
A Jesus Risen.

I need only ask James,
The Apostle, a "Son of Thunder,"
He ate and drank with Jesus
AFTER He rose from the dead. And,
He choose execution
Rather than deny his witness --
A Jesus Risen.

I need only ask James,
The "Just," the brother of the Lord,
Who came to believe after the Rising and
He ate and drank with Jesus
AFTER He rose from the dead. And,
He choose execution
Rather than deny his witness --
A Jesus Risen.

I need only ask Paul,
Who preached the Resurrection
Through the whole Empire and
Was beaten, flogged, jailed, rejected, almost drown,
Because of visionary eyes and ears of the Risen Jesus,. And.
He choose execution
Rather than deny his witness --
A Jesus Risen.

These good men, sane men, honest men,
Accepted a savage death
Rather than deny the Resurrection.

A fake? a delusion?, a trick?,
No, for this you run from death,
You hide from death, you avoid death,
But not if it is a fact of your eyes and ears.

Father,

Your Hand is one of Power and Callous,
It makes and breaks, and
You snapped death's power
So that we may live saved.

Yes, Jesus rose from the dead.
Executions don't lie.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
