God Is Silence

God is Silence

"... God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness," 1 John 1:5

God is Silence,
Not as a stone,
Nor a tomb,
Nor an icicle, But
As the dawn, the quiet rising sun;
As the cloudless sky, the azure blue arch.

Silence, You, my God
Alone fills
The soul's crater,
The soul's well.

No treasure
Will gold this hollow,
Bulk it,
No, only You,
The Boundless One.

I pray:

Grace me from
The world's jack-hammer noise
To Your Silence, There,
My soul will be as a swan
Swimming on Silent Waters -- You.

Yes, wordless peace.

And let all the lonely seekers of pearls
Find that the Pearl is Silence, and
No longer live an un-Fathered life --
A soul orphan.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
