In the Wilderness

"For You are my helper, and in the protection of Your wings,
I  shall exalt. My soul shall cleave to You as Your Right Hand
Takes hold of me." Psalm 63:7-8

Father,

As King David
Prayed in the Wilderness of Judah,
So, I pray when in my wilderness --
Temptation's barren land.

As King David
Cried out when hunted by Absolam,
So, I cry out when the Evil-One, the Soul-Hater,
Hunts after my will.

As King David
Wearied through a land
Dry with no life,
His soul hungry and thirsting for You,
So, I long for Your Power when I am faint and
To quench with Your Water of Life -- Grace.

Father,

So close are You,
Yes, so claose
As love is to heart,
As peace is to goodwill,

Yes, so close
As bright is to light,
As flight is to wings,

Yes, so, so close,
Your Hands reach to me,
When in my wilderness,

I pray,
Le tme grip Your Hands tight.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
