Chasing the Wind

"For where your treasure is, there also will
your heart be." Matthew 6:21

Father,

The wind of the world
Blows and blusters,
Drifts and twists,
Rages and sighs --
Will I chase this wind?

WhileYour Son, Jesus,
Walks through this wind,
Its' Commander  and
The wind cowards,
It's tongue no longer thunders.
Will I choose this Leader?

Father,

Which do I have a heart for?
A desire? Longing? Passion?

The world's wind?
A parching wind, a desert wind,
That gusts with worry and the shiver of loss

.
Or,

Jesus?
A feeding love, a filling love,
That tenders peace and eternal gain.

The answer?
My treasure.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
