The Father's Gift

The Father's Gift

"Ask! and it shall be given to you; Seek! and you shall find;
Knock! and it shall be opened to you." Matthew 7:7

Father,

WHAT DO i ASK?
Really, what do I crave?

Eternal life!
Yes, to know You,
The One, True God, and
Jesus Christ whom You sent. (John 17:3)

I place this plea in Your Hands.

WHAT DO i SEEK?
Search for? Pursue? Quest after?

The Kingdom, Your Kingdom (Matt 6:33),
Yes, the pearl of great price,
The mustard seed, yes,
To know it's Mysteries (Matt 13:4)

So, let this pilgrim
Find land in Your Kingdom; and,
From doubt's darkness
Find day in Your Kingdom; and,
From the world's scratch
Find depth in Your Kingdom.

WHAT DO I KNOCK ON?

The Door of Your Heart, yes,
Even when my knuckles raw. And,
In silence wrapp'd and
Curtain'd from my cares,
Enter Your Chambers, and
Be livened by Your Love for me.

I come to You
As a "fool," (1 Cor 3:18)
As a "child," (Mt 18:3)
And ask You
To open Your Wisdom,
It's treasures,
It's strength --
Your Wisdom of Life,not death.

Father,

I kneel
Not before the shrine of "I,"
Nor sorrow, nor pleasure,
But the Shrine of Joy --
Your Shrine, Your Heart.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
