Truth Packed

"...whoever loves me, will keep my commandments, and My Father
will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with
him." John 14:23

Father,

Sin is tasteless,
It dines off a barren table
In an empty room; but
The chairs! Yes, the chairs!
O so inviting.

Not so Jesus, not so His Word; for,
As sin is so hollow and draining,
So His Word is full and brimming.
Truth packed, not tangled.

He is The Truth.
He is His Word.

And,
He will home within my soul,
With You and the Holy Spirit;
That is, if I let Him.

How?
By stepping into His Cloth --
The Cloth of family,
The Cloth of richness, that is,
Dress my soul with His Words.

Not by stepping into sin's rags --
The rags of hunger,
The rags of beggary, that is,
Dress in sin's squalor.

Father,

I pray
That the fire on my soul's hearth
Not flame out, and
You Three-In-One God
Warm with me by this fire.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
