The 7 Hobbits of Highly Defective Steeples

These hobbits inhabit churches galore

Amassing a maelstrom of malice and more

Invoking the wrath of The Master whose chore

Has always been to these churches restore.

The first of the hobbits, Glibdo by name,

A master of stealth, he works in the brain,

Distracting the faithful from Love they first knew,

Supplanting affections with fine things to do.

Glibdo's first cousin, Glubdo the Faint,

Goes straight to the core of the nerves of the Saints,

Dissolving the courage that held them together

When first they stood fast and Satan's storm weathered.

Next on the list of these hobbit infestings

Milquetoast sneaks in while the faithful are resting

Disarmingly friendly, he's into dismantling

Their core code of values without even ranting.

Helping out Milquetoast, Boslog enjoys

Enticing the members to play with their toys

Forgetting the tools and the rules they employed

When first they believed in a blueprint for joy.

Paleface is poking and peeking about

And all the time sucking the life from the crowd

A shell of a church, with withering song,

A few more strained verses, this church will be gone.

Slimwise the Mole is a hobbit of note

He sneaks in unnoticed through smallest of holes

Termitic he works at the pillars so stout

Hoping, in time, to bring down the house.

Lukewarm Sleepwalker, last but not least,

Inviting himself to partake of the feast,

Likes nothing better than fooling the guests

Into thinking they're set if there's gold in their chests.

These hobbits, all seven, make quite a mob,

And shooing them out can prove quite a job,

But if you find hobbits inhabiting near

Make habit of wielding the Word...hobbits clear.
