Noel

When all in sooty darkness lies,
When dreams have faded, laughter died,
What Word exists to break the spell?
Noel.

With ravens quothing, "Nevermore",
With Reaper knocking at the door,
What weapons we, what hope, do tell?
Noel.

When all our efforts end in dust,
When chains are strong and deep the ruts,
What Light can reach us where we dwell?
Noel.

In silence, then, breathe in The Peace,
Release your hold on days so fleet,
An infant's cry begins the swell,
Noel!
