The Worth of Friends

Of all the pleasant happy things that life on earth may send,
I think the one that means the most is having a true friend.
For there are times when all of us have need of one who cares,
Of one who fully understands, and loves, and with us shares
The longings and the heartaches, the disappointments and the pain,
The little things that are a part of life's oft weary strain.

We need the hearty handclasp, the understanding smile,
Then we return the love that's shown, and this makes life worthwhile.
Although it seems that some of us are pretty much alone,
Surely we can make new friends before our life is done.
I may not have the wealth of some, nor things that this world lends,
But I am happy, for I've been blessed with you, a loving friend.
