Retirement

"Retirement" - word that seemed so strange to me
A way of life, all new, was soon to be.
Some time, yes, but till now, just thrust aside
My mind around that word had circled wide.

But think again, my life's now halfway past,
Its years have come upon me much too fast.
The years I had, by time consumed have been,
This "time" I'd always thought had been my friend.

But wait; not end, now bright new phase begins,
There's freedom now, outside of workplace din.
Forget the scars from many battles fought,
Experience has its valued lessons taught.

There is no place to grieve for years now gone,
Look up and live; the best to be has come.
