The Best Therapy

The Best Therapy

This school does not exist
For children alone,
It exists for me.
It helps me hold my
Own crumbling world together.
Can any professional say
The therapy there is
In these children wanting me,
Needing me--
To tie their shoes
To help them with their words,
To take them to lunch,
To supervise their play,
And all the time I am putting
A bandaid on their knee
Someone is placing
A bandaid on me.

How many of us
Leave behind our private hurts
When we come to work,
And remember the
Master Teacher said,
When you lose your life for others
You find your own again.
