Plea for a Schoolhouse

Plea for a Schoolhouse

I love the Montrose schoolhouse
Please don't tear that schoolhouse down,
It's the last remaining remnant
Of what used to be a town.

It was in that two-room schoolhouse
I learned to read and write,
We made some lasting friendships,
And every day was bright.

Our memories often go there,
To those happy childhood days,
Please preserve the school that stands there
Important symbol as well as place.

Our lives are filled with changes
Removing landmarks of our past,
Please - let us keep the Montrose schoolhouse,
And have a constant that will last.

It's the last remaining vestige,
Of a little country town,
Beautiful, important schoolhouse,
Please don't tear that schoolhouse down.

Eleanor W. Cunningham, former student
