Rain

Rain

I like to hear the falling rain as it spatters on the leaves
And listen to its gentle sound as it drips from off the eaves,
I like to see its silver streak as it falls from dull, gray sky,
I like to see it moisten earth, so dusty and so dry.

I like the noise of falling rain as it chatters on the street,
I like to hear its patter on the roof like squirrels' tiny feet.
I like to hear the rumble as its streamlets hasten on
Along the roadside, for I think it sings a little song.

As rain has come and watered earth, fall and winter, summer, spring,
There's always something in its tone that makes me want to sing.
And o'er my troubled weary heart it brings a soothing peace,
And makes me feel the restfulness of Nature's sweet release.
