Who Is a Mother?

Who can scan a household,
noting who needs a new pair of shoes,
who has outgrown last year's jacket, or
who needs the next dentist appointment?

Whose ears are trained to hear a new born baby's cry,
the sound of muffled tears behind a teen's bedroom door,
or who sneezed during the night?

Whose nose can tell which daughter has on her perfume
or which son just tried on Father's after-shave lotion?

Whose has arms open to comfort a number of children?
Hands that tie shoes, wipe noses, bake birthday cakes,
scrub, wash, or work to make extra money for us?

Who is on hand for school plays, graduations,
dance recitals , ball games, picnics or weddings?
And babysitting when grandchildren come around?

Whose lips are gentle enough to ease away a small tear
or hurt and firm enough to when to say "NO".
You are right if you answered a Mother!
