My Dad's Spirit
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

               My Dad's Spirit

June reminds me of warm sunny days,
cool forest streams, bright blue skys
June reminds me of my dad, so gentle
and kind with smiling eyes.

June reminds me  of the fun we had
all those years he was here.
June reminds me of his last words,
"When I am gone, someone will come
along to take my place." I shed a tear.

This June I see all my grandsons
of various ages and sizes.
I smile to myself. My dad's happy spirit
is alive in their smiling eyes!

"Children's children are a crown to the aged,
and parents are a pride of their children."
           (Proverbs 17:6 NIV)

(Author's note: I took my daughter, son-in-law
and little grandson to visit my father's grave.
Rembering my dad's words, "When I am gone,
someone will come along to take my place."
I looked over at my little grandson in his father's
arms, knowing full well my father's words were
true.)

About the Poet
Born on October 24, 1939, I was one of seven children. I am now a mother of seven grown children, grandmother of 18, widow, and writer for the past 50 years mostly poetry. Day care provider of many years, now retired. Three poetry books published, but no longer in print, several little poem books self published. Published in local newspapers, several magazines and daily devotionals. My faith, family and writing poetry has brought me thus far.
